Original reduction linocut from the From Flower to Food series
This limited edition reduction linocut celebrates the narcissus flower — a plant that represents the wider ecosystem of the garden and the many relationships that support growth.
While the From Flower to Food series primarily explores flowers of edible plants, Narcissus offers a different perspective. As a companion plant in the garden, it reminds us that healthy cultivation depends not only on the plants we harvest, but also on the diverse network of species that share the same environment.
Inspired by the flowers growing in my own garden, this artwork captures the fresh energy of spring and the moment when life begins to return after winter. The narcissus flower becomes a symbol of renewal, resilience, and the interconnectedness of plants within a living landscape.
Through a simplified composition of shape, colour, and texture, the print focuses on the character of the bloom itself. The familiar garden flower is transformed into a contemporary botanical artwork that invites closer observation of the forms and rhythms found in nature.
Created using the traditional six-layer reduction linocut technique, the image is built from a single lino block. Each colour is printed separately before more of the surface is carved away, making every step of the process carefully considered and irreversible. The result is a richly layered handmade print with subtle variations that reflect the character of original printmaking.
Each impression is individually hand printed on my own printing press, signed, and numbered as part of a limited edition of 24. Because every print is handmade, small differences in colour and texture make each artwork unique.
