Neurons and Eye
Original mezzotint from the Circadian Rhythm series
This limited edition mezzotint print is part of my ongoing Circadian Rhythm series, exploring the hidden biological systems that connect light, the human body, and our experience of time.
Neurons and Eye depicts the relationship between the eye and the brain — the pathway through which light becomes perception, information, and biological signals. The artwork combines anatomical observation with poetic interpretation, showing the delicate connection between the visual system and the neural networks that shape thought, memory, and consciousness.
The interplay of blue, orange, and red reflects the changing qualities of natural light throughout the day, from the cool tones of night to the warmth of sunrise. Light entering the eye plays a central role in regulating our circadian rhythm by influencing hormonal cycles, including the production of melatonin and cortisol. Through this connection, the artwork explores the intimate relationship between the external environment and our internal biological clocks.
Printed by hand in dark red, this mezzotint uses the unique qualities of the technique to create depth, atmosphere, and contrast. The velvety tonal transitions of mezzotint are especially suited to exploring the movement between darkness and illumination — a visual reflection of the rhythms that guide our bodies and minds.
Each impression is individually hand printed, signed, and numbered as part of a limited edition, making every artwork a unique original print.

About the Series
The Circadian Rhythm series explores the relationship between natural light, human physiology, and the invisible rhythms that influence our daily lives. Drawing from my background in anatomy and physiology, the works combine scientific concepts with traditional printmaking techniques to create visual reflections on the systems that connect us to the natural world.
Together with Ovary and Eye, Neurons and Eye forms part of a larger exploration of the human body, biological cycles, and the subtle connections between environment and wellbeing.
