Original reduction linocut from the From Flower to Food series
This limited edition reduction linocut celebrates the delicate beauty of the raspberry flower (Rubus idaeus) — a small but essential moment in the journey from blossom to harvest.
Part of my ongoing From Flower to Food series, this artwork is inspired by the edible plants cultivated in my own permaculture garden and the surrounding fjord landscape where I live and work. The series focuses on the flowers of food-producing plants, inviting attention to the often-overlooked stage before fruit and harvest.
The raspberry is usually appreciated for its sweet fruit, but its story begins much earlier. The flower holds the potential for future nourishment and plays an important role in the cycles of pollination, growth, and biodiversity. By isolating the bloom as the central subject, this print encourages a closer look at the structures, colours, and patterns that make food production possible.
Created using the traditional six-layer reduction linocut technique, the image is built slowly from a single lino block. Each colour is printed separately, and after every layer the block is carved further away, making the process gradual and irreversible. This method creates depth, texture, and a rich relationship between colour and form.
Each print is individually hand printed on my own printing press, signed, and numbered as part of a limited edition of 24. Because every impression is handmade, subtle variations in ink, texture, and pressure make each artwork unique.
