Eye — Circadian Rhythm Series
Original Mezzotint Print
Eye is an original mezzotint print from my ongoing Circadian Rhythm series, exploring the relationship between light, perception, and the hidden biological rhythms within the human body.
The eye is the point where the external world meets our internal systems. Through light entering the retina, information is transmitted to the brain and influences biological processes such as the regulation of melatonin and cortisol — hormones connected to sleep, wakefulness, and our daily rhythm.
Originally created as part of a larger anatomical composition exploring the placement and connection of different systems within the human body, this mezzotint focuses on the eye as a symbol of awareness, perception, and our relationship with changing cycles of light and darkness.
The warm orange tones reflect the transition between night and day — the moment when darkness gives way to light and the body responds to the rhythms of its surroundings. Together with the blue and red works in the series, the colours create a visual language of rest, transition, and activation.
Created using the traditional mezzotint technique, the artwork is built from darkness into light through careful preparation and polishing of the plate. The process creates the characteristic velvety blacks and subtle tonal depth that make mezzotint unique.
Each impression is individually handprinted, signed, and numbered, making every artwork a unique piece within the limited edition.
