Knowledge explores the relationship between curiosity, learning, and the quiet moments in which understanding begins to grow.
The artwork depicts my daughter’s hand while reading The Secret Garden — a scene inspired by the connection between childhood imagination and the natural world. The book itself becomes a symbol of discovery: a doorway into stories, ideas, and a deeper awareness of the life around us.
Through the intimate focus on a child’s hand holding a book, the print reflects on how knowledge is passed on and how curiosity shapes our relationship with the world. Like a garden, knowledge grows slowly through attention, care, and exploration.
This work is part of the Secret Garden series, which explores hidden connections between humans and nature through moments of observation and wonder. The series is inspired by the small encounters that reveal larger relationships — between children and gardens, people and plants, and curiosity and understanding.
Knowledge is created using the traditional mezzotint technique, a highly detailed intaglio process known for its rich blacks and delicate tonal transitions.
The copper plate is carefully prepared before the image is gradually developed from darkness into light. Through polishing and refining the surface, subtle details and soft contrasts emerge, creating the characteristic depth and atmosphere of mezzotint.
Each print is individually hand printed on a professional printing press using high-quality materials. Because every impression is handmade, small variations make each artwork unique within the edition.
