Original linocut study from the Tause Stemmer project
Tilknytning, the Norwegian word for connection or attachment, is an experimental linocut created during the development of my installation for the exhibition Tause Stemmer (Silent Voices).
Inspired by the hormone oxytocin, often associated with bonding, trust, and care, the work explores how biological processes influence our relationships and emotional lives. The expressive hand-cut typography transforms the word into both language and image, allowing the physical act of carving to become part of its meaning.
Printed on translucent parchment paper, the artwork can be viewed from either side, with light interacting through the material to create subtle variations in the image. The transparency reflects the invisible yet fundamental role that hormones play in shaping our connections with one another.
As an early study, Tilknytning (Oxytocin) documents an important stage in the development of the larger installation while standing as an independent original print.
