Original Mezzotint Print
Eye is an original mezzotint print from my ongoing Circadian Rhythm series, exploring the relationship between light, perception, and the biological rhythms that connect the human body with its environment.
The eye is more than an organ of vision — it is a gateway between the external world and our internal systems. Specialised light-sensitive cells in the eye detect changes in daylight and send signals to the brain’s biological clock, influencing hormonal processes such as the regulation of melatonin and cortisol and helping to synchronise the body with the natural cycle of day and night.
In this work, the eye becomes both an anatomical study and a symbol of connection. The blue tones refer to the blue wavelengths of daylight that provide essential information for regulating our internal rhythms, while the warmer orange and red accents reflect the changing qualities of light throughout the day and the body’s response to these transitions.
Originally created as part of a larger anatomical composition, this mezzotint forms part of an ongoing exploration of how the human body receives, processes, and responds to the rhythms around us.
Created using the traditional mezzotint intaglio technique, the artwork combines deep velvety blacks with subtle tonal transitions. Each impression is individually handprinted, signed, and numbered, making every print unique within the limited edition.
