Eye and Neurons — Circadian Rhythm Series

NOK 1,000.00

Original Mezzotint Print

Neurons and Eye is an original mezzotint print from my ongoing Circadian Rhythm series, exploring the connection between light, perception, and the hidden biological systems that regulate human life.

The work depicts the relationship between the eye and the neural pathways of the brain — the moment where external light becomes internal information. Through the nervous system, signals from the environment are transformed into biological responses that influence our daily rhythms, including the regulation of hormones such as melatonin and cortisol.

Originally created as part of a larger anatomical composition, this mezzotint explores the body as an interconnected system rather than a collection of separate parts. The eye represents perception and connection with the outside world, while the neurons represent communication, memory, and the invisible electrical activity that allows us to experience and understand our surroundings.

The blue tones refer to the blue wavelengths of daylight that enter the eye and provide essential signals for regulating the body's internal clock. These light signals influence hormonal processes, including the timing of melatonin production, helping to synchronize our biological rhythms with the natural cycle of day and night. The warm orange and red accents suggest the changing qualities of light throughout the day and the continuous movement between different biological states.

The two motifs are presented together as a visual connection between receiving light and processing information — the pathway through which the external world becomes part of our internal rhythm.

Created using the traditional mezzotint intaglio technique, the artwork combines deep velvety blacks with delicate tonal transitions. Each impression is individually handprinted, signed, and numbered, making every print unique within the limited edition.
